The Embodied Mind's claim: cognition isn't symbol-manipulation over internal representations of an external world. It's the *enactment* of a world by a living body in interaction with an environment — sense-making rather than information-processing.
Polyvagal Theory
Porges' theory that the autonomic nervous system has three hierarchical branches — ventral vagal (social engagement), sympathetic (mobilize), dorsal vagal (shutdown) — and that *neuroception*, a non-conscious assessment of safety, governs which one runs the body in any given moment. Connection is a physiological state, not just a feeling.
